SCMESA worked very hard during the 2007 legislative session to introduce and
get passed legislation to phase out the payment of sales tax on Medicare and Medicaid
home medical equipment and supplies. While the final legislation wasn’t exactly
what we wanted, it was definitely a start and everyone should be seeing savings
as a result of our hard work.
Our work has just begun and it is vitally important that we continue our legislative
activities to benefit our industry. SCMESA reopened our PAC during 2006 and we
are working now to actively grow that PAC to help us in our legislative efforts.
We plan to continue on a regular basis to be active politically as an association
and therefore, we need to raise the funds to assist us in these efforts. Your
participation in our efforts will be recognized and greatly appreciated.
SCMESA has established five levels of giving with different benefits for contributors.
All members of SCMESA are encouraged to support our PAC at any level:
Activist $2,000 and up
Advocate $1,000 - $1,999
Supporter $500 - $999
Contributor $100 - $499
Friend Up to $99
Advocate and Activist Contributors will receive invitations to special legislative
events, 4 tickets to the annual legislative reception, 1 free attendance at each
quarterly meeting for the year of the PAC contribution, a name badge ribbon at
our meetings and special recognition at our Annual Meeting and in our newsletters.
All contributors of $100 or more will receive a name badge ribbon at our meetings,
1 free ticket to our annual legislative reception, recognition at our Annual meeting
and in our newsletters.
Monies raised will be dedicated to our political activity. Our campaign will
work to increase our industry’s visibility with our legislature, both in Columbia
and in Washington. PAC dollars will be used in a variety of ways to support our
legislative efforts. Some examples may be:
- Supporting those legislators that are willing to work with our association and
our members to address our concerns and remedy problems
- Attending legislative fundraisers
- Joining the House and/or Senate Republican and/or Democratic Caucuses
- Hosting breakfasts, lunches and/or receptions for legislators
- Placing ads in newspapers
The more money that we raise, the more we can do to support our industry causes!
